Do you remember where you were on September the 11th 2001? A group of us had just landed in the outer Hebrides of Scotland for a surf event. It was not just some ordinary surf event, this was a trail of a new break away world tour being tested by Tour visionary Derek Hynd. It had all started when I met up with Derek at Bells Beach Victoria. We had met in Jeffreys Bay 6 months before and it was my rookie year on the world surfing tour as a freelance camera guy.
It was here that I learnt of a tour Derek had just completed called the Stomp tour. It was the original grom search with a grassroots surf tour with pro surfers and Bands. I left Australia with VHS videos and a CD of Pico to promote. After a meeting with Paul Caddis I told Derek to Fly over for a meeting with Red Bull. Stomp was to come to the UK, Scotland and Ireland and we filmed it for Channel 4 TV. Shane and Gavin Beschen, Conan Hayes came on the tour along with Pico surf band. This was to be the first of 3 years of Celtic events and the trail of the IS Tour.
Joe captured these images from the third and last event. The images taken at some ancient standing stones in memorial to the attack on the US Trade Towers on September the 11th 2001, that hand happened the day before.
